AHS Art Students Recognized for Contribution to Police Department

During the City Commission Meeting on January 23, 2023, two (2) Auburndale High School students were recognized for their artwork, which was selected as the design of the Auburndale Police Department’s new challenge coin. In 2022, our police department worked with Ms. Sherry Ross’ Visual Arts class at the high school to hold a contest asking for artwork to be submitted that commemorates former Police Chief Andy Ray, who retired in September. Two student entries were selected during the contest.

Katie Pruitt created one of the selected entries. Her painting features the front of the Auburndale Police Department with one of the more recently designed patrol SUVs. The acrylic painting features some of the creative contributions that Andy Ray developed for the department, such as the patrol car design, the APD shoulder patch, and the warrior coin logo (which was the first APD challenge coin in 2019). Our second artwork selection was from Zane Cronin. He created a portrait of Andy Ray using colored pencils as his medium.

Thank you to our AHS students for their hard work in creating the design of the challenge coin. If you are interested in purchasing the 2022 challenge coin, they are now available for purchase in the Auburndale Police Department lobby (2 Bobby Green Plaza) for $10.
