The Auburndale Police Department utilizes two police K-9 Units to assist the Patrol Division.  The K-9 units work a 12 hour shift and are assigned to opposite platoons. These K-9s conduct building searches, track and apprehend suspects, locate missing persons and indicate the presence of certain illegal drugs.  K-9s and their handlers successfully complete the training guidelines as established by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The Auburndale Police Department K-9 unit is called upon many times throughout the year to participate in demonstrations for various community, civic and school events. It is important to maintain community relations with the K-9 program by education.

K-9 officers (Handlers) spend the entire day with their dog. They are responsible for that care and maintenance of their dog everyday, even on days off. The handler and K-9 become quite close and a special relationship is cemented that only a K-9 officer knows.
