Chief Nelson began his career in law enforcement at the Bartow, Florida Police Department in 1992 where he served as a patrol officer and traffic homicide investigator. Chief Nelson also served as a Captain with the Live Oak, Florida Police Department and as an investigator and polygraph examiner with the Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office. In February 2007 he began his career with the Auburndale Police Department as the Deputy Chief of Police. After the untimely death of Chief Nolan McLeod, Nelson was promoted to Chief of Police on July 16, 2012.

Chief Nelson holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology from St. Leo University, a Master's Degree in Criminology from Florida State University and is a graduate of the F.B.I National Academy.

It gives me great pleasure to represent the men and women of the Auburndale Police Department. I have deep respect and admiration for our members, and I am honored to be serving beside them.

The mission of the Auburndale Police Department is to provide "Professional Police Service." We are diligent to ensure that our efforts are directed towards the successful delivery of these services. We believe that our level of success is based upon our ability to form partnerships with those within our communities. Business Hours:

The police department is staffed Monday - Friday from 8am to 5pm (excluding Holidays)


After Hours:

Persons requiring police services after hours may seek assistance by utilizing the call box at the lobby entrance or by calling (863) 401-2240


In an emergency always dial  9-1-1

















Auburndale is located close to the center of Florida. Auburndale is part of Polk County and has about 13.5 square miles of land area and 6.91 square miles of water area. The total Auburndale population is 14,262.
