POLICE DEPARTMENT
DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE
MAJOR FUNCTIONS: Administrative, management position under the
direction of the Chief of Police, that requires
performance of professional and managerial work in the development and
implementation of various law enforcement activities and programs. Position is second in command to Chief of
Police.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
The
ideal candidate would preferably have at least ten years progressively
responsible local government law enforcement experience and five or more years
experience at a command level equivalent to a Lieutenant or above. Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Police Science, Criminology,
Law Enforcement, Business, Public Administration or a closely related field
from an accredited college or university. A Master’s Degree in Police Science,
Criminology, Law Enforcement, Business, Public Administration or a closely
related field from an accredited college or university is preferred. Must possess current Florida Police
Certification and have the ability to perform all duties of a sworn law
enforcement officer to include response to calls for service, investigation of
violations of criminal laws and ordinances, and arrest of criminal
suspects. Must
possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Must
have outstanding interpersonal skills, a strong customer service orientation
and have demonstrated leadership capabilities with previous employers. Experience in community-oriented policing and
should have a strong emphasis on service delivery through partnerships with
other law enforcement agencies, the public, and other City Departments. Candidates
should also have thorough understanding of and considerable experience in
financial management, budget preparation, fiscal control, and human resource
management.
The
successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical and
drug screening.
