WasteWater Collections:
The city has only two full time collections persons. If a
job requires extra help the wastewater superintendent has
extra people he can make use of from the WWTF’s on an as
needed basis. Presently the city has 75 lift stations that
pump wastewater to one of the WWTF’s from areas that can’t
gravity all the way.
On-call
Wastewater personnel work after hours to respond to all
wastewater water emergencies. |

Industrial PreTreatment:
Industrial
Pretreatment was mandated in 1989 after surveying
Auburndale’s many industrial facilities. It was found that
the city had one Categorical Industrial User discharging
waste-water into the city’s Allred WWTF. EPA mandated
the city to develop an Industrial Pretreatment Program
approved by the EPA. Since this time Florida Department of
Environment Protection has accepted jurisdiction of the
program. At the present time Auburndale has six industrial
facilities, two of which are Categorical Users, meeting the
criteria for the pretreatment program. These facilities must
have discharge permits with discharge limitations that must
be met. Local limits are not part of the ordinance and can
be found on pages 48 and 49 below or obtained at the City of
Auburndale Utilities Department.

WasteWater
Treatment Plant (Allred): The Allred WWTF, located on
Recker Highway, was originally built in 1955 as a trickle
filter plant, along with the gravity sewer lines and some
lift stations inside the city limits. The plant was updated
several times over the years with the final revision in
2004. In 1983 the plant was updated to an extended aeration
activated sludge treatment process. It has a capacity of 1.4
million gallons per day. This plant uses an ultraviolet
system for disinfection, since it has a wet weather permit
for surface water discharges. Most of the discharge water is
transferred to an electrical generator plant to be used as
cooling water. From this point it is pumped to a city owned
spray-field north of Auburndale. |
|
WasteWater Treatment Plant (Regional):
The
Regional WWTF is an SBR (Sequence Batch Reduction) process.
It is designed to treat 4.0 million gallons per day of
wastewater. At the present time it has a capacity of only
1.56 GPD because of insufficient spray-field. Once public
re-use is introduced the plant can treat the maximum amount.
