Chief of Police
Chief Chris Nelson began his career in law enforcement at the Bartow, Florida, Police Department in 1992 where he served as a patrol officer and traffic homicide investigator. Chief Nelson also served as a Captain with the Live Oak, Florida, Police Department and as a criminal investigator and polygraph examiner with the Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office. In February 2007, he began his career with the Auburndale Police Department as the Deputy Chief of Police. Following the untimely death of Chief Nolan McLeod, Nelson was promoted to Chief of Police on July 16, 2012.
Chief Nelson holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from St. Leo University and a Master of Science in Criminology from The Florida State University. He is also a graduate of the 209th Session of the F.B.I. National Academy.
