Auburndale Police Department

2 Bobby Green Plaza,
Auburndale , FL 33823
(863)-965-5555

The Auburndale Police Department is made up of 35 sworn officers and 8 civilians.  Our agency has been accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) since 2010 and was re-accredited in 2013 and 2016.

We are dedicated to our community by providing Substance Abuse and Violence Education (S.A.V.E.) in our schools, Neighborhood Watch, and Crime Prevention programs.  We also provide a safe in our lobby for the disposal by citizens of unwanted prescription medications.

Nelson C

Chief Chris Nelson began his career in law enforcement at the Bartow, Florida, Police Department in 1992 where he served as a patrol officer and traffic homicide investigator. Chief Nelson also served as a Captain with the Live Oak, Florida, Police Department and as a criminal investigator and polygraph examiner with the Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.  In February 2007, he began his career with the Auburndale Police Department as the Deputy Chief of Police.  Following the untimely death of Chief Nolan McLeod, Chief Nelson was promoted to Chief of Police on July 16, 2012.

Chief Nelson holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from St. Leo University and a Master of Science in Criminology from The Florida State University.   He is also a graduate of the 209th Session of the F.B.I. National Academy.

This Crime Stoppers Program began in 1982 from the efforts of our City Commission and our Police Department. Our Program now operates as an independant organization. The concept has developed into a combination of efforts by local media, businesses, civic and social clubs, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Donations of airtime, newspaper space, and reward monies have established Crime Stoppers as an effective tool to fight crime in the area.

Crime Stoppers is comprised of diverse, active and dedicated community representatives. Crime Stoppers provides a method for local law enforcement to receive information on crimes. These efforts increase tips, which in turn increase arrests in our community.
